Christ Ministries (TLC)

"TLC" (The Love of Christ Ministries)
operates a home for newborn and abandoned
children in Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg
(see attached news letter). They play a
vital role in the community. As they put in
on their website:
" Every week hundreds of babies are being
abandoned in South Africa. Shortly after
birth they are left in hospitals, shop
doorways, alleys or simply dumped in the
veld. What a sad reflection of the pain in
our society. Even the most basic instinct,
namely motherhood, has been impaired to the
point where mothers feel forced to abandon
their infants in order to survive
themselves.
The Love of Christ Ministries (TLC), was
established in 1993, specifically to meet
the needs of these, the most innocent
victims of extreme poverty, violent crime,
homelessness, HIV/AIDS and general social
turmoil in South Africa."
In the past 12 years of its existence TLC
were able to place over 550 babies into
strong and loving families nationally and
internationally.
Being an operation which relies solely on
donations from the public, it is quite a
task for Thea Jarvis, Executive Director,
and her team to make ends meet. General
supplies are collected and given to the home
on a regular basis, and in 2006 the need
arose for a vehicle, to transport children
to and from the Baragwanath Hospital in
Soweto. General Motors SA and the Leasing
and Fleet Management Division, along with
other sponsors donated a Chevy Aveo to the
value of R 80 000 for this purpose. With
this vehicle, TLC can now take care of the
children even better, by getting them to
where they need to be.
The Eqstra Fleet Management has made a
long-term commitment to this home and
continue to support them by helping them
acquire the necessary resources to sustain
the initiative. A donation of R500.00 a
month is given to The love of Christ
Ministries(TLC).

In September 2007 Clover Mama Rosemary
Machogo from the Lesedi la Thuto Centre in
Bloemfontein and a lucky e.tv Morning
Edition viewer, Dimakatso Sebotsa from
Bryanston each won a brand-new 1.4
Volkswagen Golf Chico, each worth R70 000.
Dimakatso and Mama Rosemary’s names were
entered in the Clover Mama Africa and Eqstra
Fleet Management competition that flighted
on e.tv .
The aim of the competition was to promote
and showcase the social upliftment work that
the 22 Clover Mama Africa are doing
nationwide as part of Clover’s Corporate
Social Investment (CSI) project. Over 10
weeks the Mamas were featured on location
and viewers could enter the competition via
SMS. All entries were automatically entered
into a grand draw, while weekly Clover
product vouchers were up for grabs.
"No words can describe how I feel – I am
speechless. This is the best thing that’s
happened to our centre," said an overwhelmed
Mama Rosemary. "Being mobile will enable me
to get the sick children to the clinics and
I can now deliver my freshly baked breads to
the local communities. I am inspired to go
for my learners' and driver’s license as
soon as possible, but until then I will be
strict on who drives me around. I am
grateful and blessed," says Mama Rosemary.
A delighted Dimakatso Sebotsa added: "I have
entered every single competition where there
is a car to be won. When I got the call from
e.tv Morning Edition I really thought that
someone was playing a joke on me. You never
expect these wonderful things to happen to
you. I am so glad that I entered this one. I
will never forget Clover Mama Africa and
Imperial Fleet Services for having changed
my life".
Shumani Tshifularo, Divisional Chief
Financial Officer, Eqstra Fleet Management
said: "We are heartened and proud to be part
of an initiative so close to our hearts.
What these women do for their communities is
an inspiration that we all should follow. We
are pleased that our practical donation will
be well used by Mama Rosemary. We are also
very pleased to have made a difference in
the life of Dimakatso Sebotsa, our viewer
competition winner."
